R.I.P. Eyedea – Michael Larsen, Known As “Eyedea,” Dies At 28

Recording Artist Eyedea

We just received word that infamous Rhymesayer “Eyedea” has passed away…  This from Facebook (confirmed by MTV):

It is with great pain and sadness that I tell you my son Mikey (Eyedea) has passed away.

At this time we kindly request your respect and our privacy as we process this devastating loss.

We do, however, welcome your kind words, memories, and positive thoughts. We have created a Paypal account and are accepting donations towards the cost of his services.

On behalf of Mikey’s family, close friends and fans. Thank you.

As some of you know, much of the LiTHUM camp went to school in Minnesota.  We didn’t know Eyedea but we do have friends within the Rhymesayers, the Minnesota based group Eyedea was a part of.  Personally, it was luck that I would grow to be connected in anyway to the Rhymesayers camp.  I remember Eyedea from my high school days when I lived across the country in Colorado.  There was a short stint when MTV hosted freestyle battles and I was mesmorized by what these guys could do.  Shoot, it’s what I rushed home from school for everyday!  What I saw pushed me to dig further and that’s when I found the Blaze Battles.  The first battle I ever saw:  Eyedea Vs. (Some dude that I can’t remember).

It seems rather appropriate that when I made it to The Daily Swarm this morning and heard the news, the Blaze Battle featuring Eyedea was on the front page.  Man… What’s even more appropriate:  Look up “Blaze Battles” (using Bing) and the first three links don’t even speak to the series, they feature Eyedea.

This dude changed some of my friends lives and left an enduring impression on me.  If you’re not familiar, I’m sorry you will be under these circumstances.  If you knew Eyedea and have a story to share, I’d love to reminisce with you…

Eyedea – 28 years old

R.I.P.  Michael “Eyedea” Larsen.  God Bless.
